1. What is the inspiration behind Able Jobs? What experiences of your founders motivated you to start the company?
Before Able Jobs, we helped non-technical students prepare for college exams. We have found that most non-technical students are focused on jobs. When we dig deeper, we find that it takes 6-12 months for a non-tech graduate to get their first job. To understand the void, we interviewed HR and business leaders to understand what is holding them back from hiring new employees. We eventually found that the skill gap among new graduates prevents freshmen from getting jobs. So we thought about helping these people get a job and started training them directly for jobs. First we taught people on the phone, then we taught people on WhatsApp and finally, after a few internships, we launched the Able Jobs app to help students prepare for the job.
We are 3 founders and have all known each other for 6 years. We started as a weekend project and slowly evolved into what you see as Able Jobs. All three founders previously worked for an ed startup and we are very passionate about how the internet can be used for socio-economic appreciation in the next decade. We are a team of over 25 people in total from diverse backgrounds including IIT, IIM, Teach for India and more.
2. What is exclusive about your organization? How does it differ from other HR tech startups?
Able Jobs trains young professionals for positions in sales and support. Job seekers download our app, then go through our training courses and, after completing the course, connect them to companies and find them jobs. We solve the employability problem for non-tech audiences. Every year more than 18 million people graduate with technical degrees such as BA, BBA but struggle to find a job. Our rigorous in-house training program ensures that graduates acquire the skills necessary to get the job. The courses are carried out online with the help of experienced trainers.
Developing the right pedagogy so that we can remove subjectivity from non-technological professions was one of the greatest challenges in the beginning. Over time, we’ve worked closely with students and companies to understand the key gaps, and developed content, proprietary frameworks, and ratings to help us thoroughly evaluate a candidate and provide them with the skills required for the job. Our app ensures that the content is delivered perfectly and that job seekers can acquire the skills required for a job.
3. Which technical training strategy offers them guaranteed jobs?
Our pedagogy and training methodology set us apart from our competitors. Our training is fast moving, a learner can comfortably complete a module in a short time; Our training is relevant, we only focus on the core skills and knowledge a learner needs; Our training is based on real life, which means that you are taught skills that you can apply and apply not only in job interviews but also in your job.
4. What gives people who are trained in suitable professions a competitive advantage over their competitors in the market?
Compared to other students, our students are more self-confident, more accomplished and more productive. You have the confidence to crack the toughest aspects of the job from repetitive practice. Our accurate AI feedback helps students precisely structure their reaction practice until they perfect themselves. Our training helps candidates win awards in their work as well. They consistently do better than others.
5. You managed to place 1000+ people in the middle of a pandemic, what is the innovative strategy?
We managed to get more than 5000 jobs in the pandemic. We helped more than 5000 people to work in the pandemic. During the pandemic, we identified key employment sectors and trained candidates with skills relevant to these jobs. Students learned tips and strategies for selling education and insurance products for Ed-Tech and Secure-Tech sectors that added to their sales team during COVID. We also work closely with companies so that our trained students can have face-to-face interviews with these companies to speed up their selection process.
6. Tell us about your product “India’s first audio job recommendation in the app with KI & ML”
At Able Jobs, employees can practice sales pitches and record their audio recordings for feedback. Users record their audio, we give them a score using our proprietary AI model, and then suggest them jobs that best suit their communication skills. This helps users understand top companies to hire and ultimately helps them find a job faster.
Most of the models, including Google and Amazon speech recognition models, won’t work for Indian accents as they were primarily designed for Western use case. This is the first of its kind to recognize the Indian accent.
7. In which direction do you see the company expanding or opening up new areas?
We are expanding our portfolio to include training in professional fields in industries such as BFSI and BPO. We have a catalog of over 60 courses and would like to expand it quickly in these industries. We use proprietary AI / ML models to evaluate job seekers’ candidacies based on their communication skills and can now process over a thousand applicants in a minute. This gives us an advantage over any other partner for making scalable settings. We are working on further improving the accuracy of our models using data from our growing user base, among other things.
With many companies extending their work from home and others planning to move a significant workforce to remote work, companies need well-trained talent because onboarding and training are less intensive compared to setting up in the office. We believe our program will provide the right professional skills to start a person in the job without additional training.
8. What is your founder’s vision of the company?
With Able Jobs we are on a mission to eradicate unemployment. 2 Cr graduates enter professional life every year. We would like to be the point of contact for career entry preparation for these students. Right now we’re focusing on specific job roles like sales and support. As our journey progresses, we will expand our scope to include all entry-level roles such as accountant, digital marketing, frontline roles such as receptionist and many more. We develop effective tools that make it easier for users to do self and group training in the app, give them automatic feedback so that they can improve, build self-confidence and get closer to work.
