BCCI President and Secretary General congratulate the Indian U-19 team on winning the Asian Cup on Cricketnmore

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah praised the Indian cricket team for winning the U19 Asia Cup title in Dubai on Friday.

A stellar show by the bowlers followed by an unbeaten half century from opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi (56 not out) led India to an easy nine-goal win over Sri Lanka in a rainy U19 Asia Cup final at the Dubai International Stadium here on Friday.


The win also meant India picked up the U19 Asia Cup trophy for the eighth time out of nine editions.

“Congratulations to the U19 team on winning the Asian Cup … No cricket since 2020 for Covid (sic) since 2020 and to win is a commendable effort time to select the best players..NCA deserves a lot of recognition”, said Sourav Ganguly in a tweet.

Meanwhile, Executive Secretary Jay Shah said the tournament was an ideal preparation for the upcoming ICC U19 World Cup.

“Congratulations to India U19 for the excellent performance at the # U19AsiaCup and winning the championship for the 8th time! This tournament was an ideal preparation for the ICC U19 World Championship in the West Indies next month. #BoysInBlue, “Shah tweeted.

Ganguly was discharged from the hospital here earlier in the day after testing negative for the new variant of COVID-19, Omicron. According to doctors, the former Indian captain had mild symptoms of COVID-19 and is fine and would remain in domestic isolation.

The 49-year-old, who was under treatment for heart disease earlier this year, was hospitalized on December 28.
