In the final results of chartered accountants declared on Monday, two brothers of Pali district of Rajasthan- Lalit and Rakesh Solanki – passed the exam. What makes their success special is their taste.Ather Mohanlal works as a taxi driver and night guard during the day.
“My father has encouraged us to study hard. It was his belief in our abilities that we decided to pursue this exam despite our lack of confidence in the English language,” said Lalit Solanki.
The brothers completed their entire education through Hindi medium except CA final exam. However, there were many hurdles in the journey due to lack of availability of study material and coaching in Hindi medium.
“Very limited sources are available for Hindi medium CA candidates. Even the books provided by ICAI are two-three years old. We got them translated but the accuracy was not suitable,” Lait said.
The brothers also joined a private coaching class, but to no avail as most of the coaching was provided in the English language. “We used to take two books to coaching. One to keep pace with the class, and the translated version to understand,” the brothers shared.
Since the coaching was of little or no use, Solanki approached his Class 12 teachers to help him understand the basic concepts. He passed the first two stages of the examination (Foundation and Intermediate) through Hindi medium but moved to English medium for the final examination.
“The syllabus of the final exam is huge and we realized the need of guidance to qualify in this stage. So, we decided to switch to English medium. The switch was not easy but the dedication to crack the exam propelled us forward. When we were studying together, there was constant inspiration from each other,” the brothers said.
Talking about opting for Chartered Accountancy, the brothers said that in small towns, science stream is considered a better option than commerce and humanities. His father wanted him to do engineering like his elder brother but both were not interested in the subject.
“I opted for non-medical in class 11, but due to lack of interest, I changed my stream to commerce in class 12. My father was upset, but he directed me to pursue the highest degree in commerce stream And so I decided to pursue chartered accountancy as a career,” Rakesh told indianexpress.com.
Rakesh and Lalit are the youngest of four brothers in a family of six. While his eldest brother is an engineer, the other runs a successful business.
