CAT 2021 results: IIT Bombay student secures 99.99 percentile with just five months of preparation time

In the CAT 2021 results announced on January 3, Maharashtra’s Yash Mandhana, to his own surprise, secured the 99.99 percentile. The IIT Bombay student claims he didn’t start his preparation until July 2021, studying two hours a day to prepare for the management entrance exam.

“When I downloaded my scorecard, I expected that I would hit around the 99.95 percentile. However, it was definitely a surprise to score close to a perfect result. I’m happy about the success and will now prepare for the next round. I am aiming to join one of the three IIMs from Ahmedabad, Bangalore or Calcutta, ”said the topper.

Yash is from Mumbai and studied at Poddar International School and then graduated from JEE to study at IIT-Bombay. He is currently in the final year of the dual study program B-Tech-M-Tech.

Speaking of his preparation for the CAT exam, Yash said that his reading habits formed a basis for his preparation for the reading comprehension section. Meanwhile, solving test tests helped him gauge his accuracy and efficiency in the exam environment.

“I took part in various Olympics at a young age and also prepared for NTSE in grade 10. These tests have helped me become familiar with the concepts of thinking and fast arithmetic. Around 70 percent of the CAT curriculum now overlap with the JEE curriculum. That also proved helpful in preparation, ”said Yash.

Yash emphasized the importance of running time-based mock tests and spending at least an hour each day identifying the vulnerabilities based on the performance of the mock test.

“Since I was preparing in parallel to my graduation, I was able to use my time efficiently to study for both exams. I showed up for at least two trial tests each week and spent the rest of the time practicing the questions TIME provided. Your stated solutions helped me better understand the wrongly asked questions, ”he shared.

Yash has also been placed with a global brand and is excited to join the company. For its CAT 2021 attempt, the front runner would like to use the postponement option that only the IIM Ahmedabad offers its students in order to gain admission, but to continue teaching after a two-year break. If he does not get into IIM-A, he will think about the most suitable options.
