The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked colleges to hold exams for college students in their final year “compulsory” while no final exams are held for intermediate grades in their first and second years. These guidelines are similar to those of last year, when a panel suggested that “50 percent of grades may be awarded according to the internal assessment model adopted by universities and the remaining 50 percent according to performance in previous studies” for intermediate level students “in semesters only the committee suggests. “
UGC also said in its latest announcement that the previously published guidelines will also apply to the current 2020-21 academic session. “Terminal semester or final exams will be mandatory in offline (pen & paper) or online or blended mode (online + offline) by August 31, 2021 at the latest in accordance with the prescribed protocols / guidelines in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic carried out. “Said the top body in its official announcement.
“For students in the intermediate semester / year, the universities can start their academic session (in online / offline / blended mode) as early as possible, taking into account the guidelines / instructions issued by the responsible government in connection with the COVID-19- Pandemic be followed / competent authority, “she added.
When similar guidelines were issued last year, students protested long ago saying that online exams were not appropriate for the form of assessment. Some students also claimed that exams were being held even though they were taking a full class or completing the curriculum. The college has been closed since mid-March 2020 and most courses take place in online mode.
Speaking of the new academic session, the UGC said, “Ensure that the undergraduate degree or program admissions process for the 2021-2022 academic session does not begin until the results are declared by the CBSE, ICSE and State Boards. It is expected that all school councils will announce their results for the exams of Class / Class XII by July 31, 2021.
She asked the universities to complete the approval for the 2021-2022 session “by September 30th at the latest”. The last admission date to fill the vacancies is October 31, 2021. The relevant documents for the aptitude test can be accepted until December 31, 2021. The academic session 2021-2022 should be on October 1, 2021 at the latest for students in the first semester / year begin, said UGC.
“In the case of universities located in places where the responsible government (central / state) or responsible authority has issued restrictions on public gatherings, the universities can plan accordingly. In any case, these recommendations must not cause restrictions on the guidelines / instructions issued by the competent government / competent authority, ”said UGC in a letter to the heads of the colleges.
