Government polls could postpone JEE Main to March 2022, with four attempts likely to continue

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to conduct the national engineering entrance exam – JEE Main – in March instead of February. The change in the audit schedule this year is likely due to the upcoming general election in five states. In addition, the engineering entrance exam, JEE Mains 2022, will be held four times, like last year, according to sources. The NTA has not yet released its official notification for JEE Mains 2022 and is expected to be released in January. Both the notification and the application link are activated at

According to media reports, MOE officials have claimed that the JEE Main’s schedule is likely to change due to the elections in the five states. A senior official claimed that the schedule (JEE network) could be optimized in view of the upcoming elections this year. He added that the first audit is likely scheduled in March, followed by April, May and June, the Times Of India reports.

Number of exam attempts

Students normally get two opportunities a year to show up for engineering access, but the number of attempts has doubled than usual due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021, the national engineering entrance exam – JEE Main – had four attempts.

The official also added that the government has decided to hold the JEE Main four times again this year.

As already reported by, the JEE Main 2022 could be held there, like last year, according to the new examination pattern consisting of options. The JEE Main 2022 offered students an internal option. This was offered because the curriculum was cut by boards due to the school closure.

In addition, students were also given an internal choice as the boards had scaled back the curriculum for grades 9-12 and the government allowed student admission preparations to be in sync with school board exams. This year, too, the committees are further reducing their curricula. It is therefore very likely that the internal option will remain in place this year as well.

In JEE Main 2021, students were asked 30 questions each in the three sections physics, chemistry, and mathematics. There are usually 25 questions in each section. While students have to answer 25 questions, five additional questions were offered as options.

JEE Main 2022: Loosening of the 12th board brand

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Ministry of Education has relaxed the criterion for board examinations from university admission. In both 2020 and 2021, students could only apply for admission on the basis of the entrance exam. Grades from the 12th grade and entrance exams are usually taken into account for admission. For example, to be admitted to IITs, one must have 75 percent points, at least along with the JEE Advanced score, in order to be selected. In the event of inconsistencies in the boards with regard to the formulas for calculating grades, this relaxation could be pursued further.
