Every exam requires well-planned preparation, that is, the creation of a curriculum or timetable. It will help you with the time management strategy in preparing for the competitive exams and crack it. There are some competitive exams like JEE Main, JEE Advanced, NEET and BITSAT etc in India that require careful preparation and better study plan.
Every student knows what study planning is and they have made a lot of plans during their school or exam preparation, but it is important to have a schedule that will help you get through the exam. A curriculum is a well-structured schedule that will help you track your study time, classes, and other important things in life like eating, sleeping, social life, etc.
Sometimes it is hard to find the time to study all of the major subjects and a study plan will help you balance your studies. If you follow these simple steps below, you will create a perfect study plan for yourself –
Set your goals
A study goal is important if you want to be successful in school or exams. it will give you much-needed motivation to try and work hard to make it happen. Goals help students manage their time, focus on studying, and get them to create a class schedule or schedule. Write your goal in bold and set the number of hours of study to achieve that goal.
Make the list
Before you start creating a timetable, list all the key things you need to do – eat, sleep, take breaks, exercise, etc., and subjects you need to study for the exam. it gives you the flexibility to allocate time to each subject, just as you allocate less time to the subject that is your forte and more time to the subject you are weak in.
Prioritize your list
Now that you’ve made an important list of things, it’s a good idea to prioritize them. Find out which subject you are confident in and which subject you have to work hard in. Make a checklist and write down each topic in the table and mark your weak topics using an evaluation method. This will help you distribute your time properly. If you enjoy studying in groups, study with friends who are well versed in your weaker subjects.
Analyze your habits and your learning style
In order for a curriculum to work better, you need to figure out which learning style will work for you and which learning style will not work for you. Is learning over many hours a day the most effective for you, or does learning in small blocks of time help you prepare? Is studying at a certain time of the day very productive for you? Is it good to study a subject right after class to keep the knowledge?
You need to ask yourself these questions and analyze your habits in order to create a better study plan. It will help you understand that which time to study is more productive and best for you.
Develop a schedule
You have now developed your study list, understanding and analyzing how much study time you need to plan or create a study plan for yourself. Make your study calendar a commitment to passing the exam. it ensures that this is the time specifically reserved for study and not for any other purpose. You should definitely not miss this period of study.
Plan your timetable for a specific subject, e.g. B. Which subject you would like to study on a particular day to make sure you devote enough time to that subject. You can devote more days to a weak subject and fewer days to a subject you are good at. For example, if you’re preparing for IIT JEE and math and physics are your weak subject, you can schedule math for Monday, Thursday, and Saturday and physics for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday. And chemistry two days a week. That way, you can cover your entire core JEE curriculum smarter.
Stick to your plan
You have made a plan, now you need to stick to that plan. If you hesitate, your plan will not add value to your studies and you will not benefit from it. Here are some points to follow to stay on track –
- Find a good place to study in peace.
- Don’t make an unrealistic study plan. Try to make a schedule that you can easily follow, but that doesn’t mean you have less time to study the schedule and more time to play, sleep, and other things.
- Subjects at the time you specify.
- Take brief notes on each formula and concept.
- Don’t just write “study chemistry” at certain times in the timetable, but write “learn 10 equations from organic chemistry today”. That way you know what you are going to learn.
- Practice previous year’s assignments and online test tests to apply what you have learned to stay on course. You recognize your strengths and work on your weaknesses.

Distractions can certainly affect your exam performance. It came in many forms caused by you or others. Social media platforms, TV shows, and movies, all of the entertainment during exams can be tempting, but you must try to resist them at all costs as it will keep you focused and kept you from preparing.
You need to make a commitment to just focus on learning and do everything else later. Keeping yourself motivated can help you stay away from distractions.
Remember to take breaks
To prepare for exams, it is good to take small breaks while studying. If you study in a concentrated manner over a long period of time, it is not good for your brain as your concentration starts to deteriorate after a certain point. Breaks help your brain rejuvenate and relax.
Studies suggest that using the Pomodoro technique while studying helps improve concentration and productivity. With this technique, students can break up their studies with short breaks in between. You can study 10-15 minutes break in 1:30 hours. You can take advantage of this break to connect with your friends, spend time with family, and maybe play games.
In order for the curriculum to work, you need to strictly follow and adhere to it. There is no test in this world that you cannot pass if you follow your plans and believe in yourself. All the best.
