Types of seating arrangements

There are mainly 3 types of seating arrangements from which questions are asked in the exam.

  1. Linear seating arrangement: The questions from the linear seating are asked using the single and multiple rows. Types of linear seating arrangements are:

a) Single row unidirectional: The people are arranged in a single row facing in the same direction.

b) Single row bidirectional: People will be placed in a single row and they will look in two different directions.

c) Double row: The people are arranged in 2 different rows.

B) Circular bidirectional: On this type of question, people sit in a circular row and look in different directions, either outwards or inwards.

3. Polygonal seating arrangement: With this seating arrangement, people sit in different polygon-shaped figures such as squares, rectangles, triangles, etc.

4th Concentric arrangement: In this type of question, one polygon shape is placed inside the other polygon shape and then people sit around the same.

The tips and tricks for solving the seating arrangement questions can be found below.

  1. The first step is to analyze and collect all the direct statements contained in the puzzle.
  2. Write down any negative statements that appear in the puzzle, if any.
  3. Write down all of the information you have gathered in a simplified manner so that you don’t have to keep looking back at the confusing paragraph. For example, if the statement reads “P sits 3rd to the right of Q”, you can simply write it as “Q → 3R P”.
  4. Make sure to draw various arrangements in advance as you will have to make choices.
  5. Don’t stick to one possibility just because it is almost complete. Continue to cross out the possibilities that do not correspond to or conflict with the information in the puzzle.
  6. After all, in the end there is only one positive result that follows all the positive and negative statements of the riddle and that would be the required solution.
