The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) runs offline exams for grades 12 and 10
Pune: While the state agency has scheduled offline exams for March and April this year, teachers and principals of various schools have found that some subjects excluded from the curriculum are of crucial importance to students. The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) runs offline exams for grades 12 and 10.
Last year, following the outbreak of Covid, 25 per cent of the curriculum for all standards was cut.
Harishchandra Gaikwad, President of the Pune District Heads’ Association, said that the basics of subjects taught in Grade 9 and Grade 11 are not part of the reduced curriculum of Grade 10 and Grade 12, respectively.
“So the teachers of grades 10 and 12 have to teach the students the basic subjects of grades 9 and 11,” Gaikwad said.
Sharad Gosavi, chairman of MSBSHSE, said the decision to reduce the curriculum was made by the Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).
“We have reduced the curriculum to help the students. Many students have lost the habit of writing after classes resumed following the Covid lockdown. That’s why we gave the students half an hour and an hour more for the offline exam planned for March. We are adamant on the decision to take an offline exam as the online format is not possible in Maharashtra due to the varied geography of the state and the fact that not all students have access to a mobile phone or laptop to show up for the test is,” Gosavi said.
He urged students aged 15 to 18 to get vaccinated at the earliest.
“Vaccinating students will ensure they are safe. All teaching and non-teaching staff are already fully vaccinated,” Gosavi said.
Although State Committee officials have decided to conduct the exam offline, the final decision will be made by the State Government depending on the prevailing Covid situation.
