Math Olympics Grade 6: Tips to Prepare

The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is an annual mathematics competition for high schools that takes place in a different country every year. It has grown steadily and encompasses more than 100 countries on five continents. The board of directors of the International Maritime Organization ensures that the tournament takes place every year and that each host country abides by the rules and traditions of the IMO.

The IMO Foundation is a non-profit organization that helps the IMO. The website of the IMO Foundation serves as the public face of the organization.

The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is a MATH competition for children in grades one to twelve.

IMO participants are assessed based on their grade 1 grades. After taking the first level of the test, students can assess themselves academically at four different levels: within the school, at the local level, at the state level and, above all, at the international level.

Students who qualify for the 2nd grade exam include: (a) the top 5% of students in each grade who take the 1st grade exam; (b) the top 25% of students in each state who take the 1st level exam, and (c) the best in class of each participating school where at least 10 students in a class take the exam and achieve 50% of the qualification grades.

Grade 1 and Grade 2 students are not required to take a second-tier exam and are instead graded based on their first-tier performance.

Curriculum in IMO for grade 6

  • The International Mathematical Olympiad curriculum is divided into four sections for each class, ranging from first to tenth grade. This was done to make sure it was presented in a form that was easy to find. The subtopics are assigned strictly according to the student’s class, and sample tests and sample work are also available.
  • Section 1 includes questions on patterns, classifications, analogies, and other topics up to grade 5. From the 6th grade onwards, it includes questions about verbal and non-verbal thinking.
  • Segment 2 is the Mathematical Reasoning section, which contains questions about the student’s teaching.
  • Part 3 is the “Everyday Mathematics” section and follows the same syllabus as Section 2. The questions, on the other hand, are more of the “Everyday Mathematics” type and have little to do with thinking.
  • The Performers section is located in Section 4. This section also contains questions on the topics covered in Section 2, but at a higher level. It is best to start this section when the other three are complete.
  • The first section covers both verbal and non-verbal reasoning.
  • Section 2: Understand basic geometric ideas, understand elementary shapes, whole numbers, fractions, decimals, data processing, measurement, algebra, ratio and proportion, symmetry, practical geometry
  • Section 3: The curriculum for this section is based on the Mathematical Thinking Curriculum.
  • Higher Order Thinking Questions (Section 4) – The curriculum follows Section 2.

The best tips for learning for IMO for grade 6

  1. 70% of the syllabus from the previous session is covered in the first level exam. You should practice that Previous work for IMO Class 6 Mathematics 2016. Review the curriculum to determine and find the resources you will need to learn more about the various IMO topics. Our IMO Olympics sample papers can help you improve your skills.
  1. Prepare your study materials in advance. Don’t waste time looking for learning resources at the last minute.
  1. The questions at the IMO level are conceptual in the sense that they do not require a direct knowledge of concepts, but rather an understanding of how concepts are used. You also need to know how to apply the concepts, which you can do by going through the Achievers section, which has advanced questions based on applying principles. You should be familiar with the concept and pattern and practice sample tasks from the Mathematical Olympiad using the exact pattern in the IMO Level 1 question papers from the previous year.
  1. Start Learning Today: The majority of students looking to climb IMO Level 1 have already started studying for the exam.
  1. You should rehearse with real time pressure and the same series of questions in order to overcome any panic situation. The real IMO question paper is quite lengthy and takes a lot of practice to complete in the allotted time. Solving arithmetic problems on the Internet is of no use to anyone. To answer the questions in a certain amount of time, you need to practice using a hard copy.
  1. Make a schedule and stick to it. Practice with different questions. Work on the areas that you are missing. If you don’t want to overexert yourself, start by scheduling.
