Govt scraps choppers and missile bids to spur Make in India
The Central Government promoting Make in India has decided to withdraw tenders for deals related to the purchase of short-range surface-to-air missiles and 14 helicopters. However, the armed forces are allowed to strike a deal to buy air-to-surface missiles from France and overhaul Russian helicopters.
The US is giving free rapid at-home COVID-19 tests to all Americans
The United States government has decided to expand testing capacity by distributing rapid COVID-19 tests to Americans free of charge. The half billion tests can be ordered from January 19, 2022 and will be sent directly by post.

The largest Khadi national flag in the world is displayed on Army Day
The world’s largest national flag made of khadi fabric is displayed along the India-Pakistan border in Jaisalmer in celebration of Army Day on January 15th. The flag is displayed in Longewala, which was also the focal point of the historic battle between India and Pakistan in 1971.
EC to double the airtime allocated to political parties
India’s Electoral Commission has decided to double the air and television time allotted to each national party and recognized States Parties in election-bound states. The decision was made in consultation with Prasar Bharti in view of the pandemic.
