NEET 2021: Biology is the study of living things and their vital processes. It is important because it helps us understand how living things work and how they function and interact on multiple levels.
Biology is divided into separate branches for ease of study, although all of the subdivisions are linked by basic principles. The subdivisions are-
1. Botany (the study of plants)
2. Zoology (the study of animals)
The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts India’s largest medical entrance exam, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), once a year. And in NEET-2021, biology is the single subject that includes the maximum number of questions. Don’t panic, here is a list of biology tips to help you improve your preparation.
The technical preparation tips for NEET 2021 listed below include the chapter-by-chapter weighting of the most important chapters, important topics and why they should be studied.
Biology | botany
Genetics and Evolution – weighting = 21%
The need to study this part is due to the weighting this unit carries.
It covers important topics such as Mendel’s experiments, Mendel’s life story, Mendel’s laws of inheritance, deviations from Mendelism, Mendelian disorders, DNA packaging, genetic code, and genetic material.
Study concepts such as the dihybrid cross, coupling, codomination, genetic disorders, Darwinism, and natural selection in depth.
Ecology and environment – weighting = 19%
Since ecology and the environment are second in terms of weighting, a thorough understanding of the following topics is essential –
Biodiversity, biosphere reserves (national parks and wildlife sanctuaries), ecosystem, population growth factors and models, stratification and environmental issues.
Since the Biology NEET part is the most important section of the paper, focus more on these concepts as well.
Plant Physiology – Weight = 17%
Some important topics that fall into this category are:
Transport in plants, mineral nutrition in plants, photosynthesis and respiration in plants, the different cycles – Calvin cycle, C4 path, photorespiration, glycolysis, Krebs cycle, plant growth and development, phytohormones.
This section deals with the core of botany – the physiological processes that go on in plants, and is therefore important from a learning perspective. Second, the weighting of the segment cannot be ignored, which makes this unit very important.
Cell structure and function – weighting = 15%
Some important topics to cover are:
Definition of the cell, cell types – prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, detailed structure of the prokaryotic cell, structure and function of eukaryotic cells (plant cell and animal cell), various organelles of these cells, cell cycle and cell division process – mitosis and meiosis. A cell is the most basic unit of life and therefore its study is very fascinating. 5. Sexually
Reproduction in flowering plants – weight = 8.5%
This section deals with the important propagation process in plants. Since plants are the ultimate food source for all organisms, their continuity on earth is of paramount importance. Therefore, it is worth studying the unit. The weighting of the unit in the examination must not be neglected either.
Important topics are the structure of flowers, gametogenesis – microsporogenesis, megasporogenesis, pollination, propagation devices, fertilization, embryo development and formation of the endosperm.
Biology | zoology
Human physiology – weighting = 28%
The study of the function of the human body is known as human physiology and it is natural that the subject is fascinating.
Since it has the maximum weight, make sure that you understand the human digestive system, respiratory system, structure of the human heart, double circulation, gas transport, excretory process, structure of the brain, reflex action, sensory organs – eye and ear – Study structure and function, endocrine system, endocrine glands – their structure and functions; Faults in connection with all of the systems mentioned
Biology and human well-being – weighting = 19%
The topics are of general interest and make us aware of how biology can be used for the benefit of humanity. Important topics to be studied are:
Health, common diseases, AIDS – pathogens, symptoms, treatment, cancer – causes and treatment, immunity, types of immunity, antibodies, antigen-antibody reaction, allergies, autoimmunity, drug and alcohol abuse.
Reproduction – weight = 14%
Reproduction is an interesting topic because it encompasses the processes from conception to human birth.
Make sure to cover these topics: reproductive systems – male and female, gametogenesis – formation of sperm and egg, hormonal control of gametogenesis, structure of sperm and egg, lactation, menstrual cycle; different methods of contraception, causes and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases.
Biotechnology – weighting = 12%
Biotechnology is the branch of application of biology, so it is interesting and informative. The technological aspect of biology is covered by biotechnological tools.
Important concepts are recombinant DNA, endonucleases, gene amplification using PCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning vectors, gene therapy, molecular diagnostics, transgenic plants and animals.
Biomolecules – weight = 9%
Understanding the extremely essential molecules that make up the body is critical to the functioning of the body and an important topic in preparing for the NEET.
Remember to make the correct notes about biomolecules – carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, enzymes, their classification, bonds and structure necessary for their formation; Enzyme properties, activation energy and factors that influence enzyme action.
