The experienced Indian pacemaker Jhulan Goswami believes that the ODI series with five games against New Zealand will help the team adapt to the windy conditions ahead of the 2022 Women’s World Cup. The Women in Blue will face the Kiwis in five ODIs next month, which would be their final outing before the gala tournament. As such, the team led by Mithali Raj would see the series as an opportunity to test their bench strength and identify their best team.

It should be noted that the Women’s World Cup starts on March 4th and India is on the hunt for its first title. Goswami, the top wicket taker at ODIs, could take part in their final ICC tournament and is determined to take the glory. The veteran expects the team to get used to the local conditions during the New Zealand ODIs.

We’ll have time to fix our mistakes before the World Cup: Jhulan Goswami

“We’re going to play New Zealand before the World Cup, which is great preparation. It will help us get used to the conditions and weather. It’s very windy there and we as cricketers need some time to get used to the conditions. We as bowlers find it difficult to bowl against the wind at first, ”Goswami was quoted by ESPNcricinfo as saying.

“These five games will allow us to familiarize ourselves with the courts and the weather. All games will be important. We have a squad of 18 if we want to rotate our players before the World Cup [that can be done in the ODI series]. We haven’t played a lot of international cricket lately. So we’ll have time to fix our mistakes before the big tournament, ”she added.

Goswami meanwhile refrained from commenting on her future plans.: Well, at the moment the World Cup has priority. We have to go and play good cricket. That’s the most important. We have been preparing for this over the past four years and unfortunately it has been postponed. Now the focus is just on that. After the World Cup we will take care of everything else, ”added Goswami.
