Odisha increases the salary of new teachers, the increase is to take effect from January 1st

The Odisha government on Monday announced a 50 percent increase in the salaries of junior teachers, both regular and contract teachers, employed in the state’s elementary schools.

A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said the raise will take effect from January 1, 2022. The decision on the raise will benefit 33,038 junior teachers, including 13,324 contract teachers and 19,714 regular teachers.

Prime Minister Naveen Patnaik made this decision after increasing grants for employees of all sponsored non-governmental schools, colleges and madrasas as recommended by the 7th Wages Commission.

The contracted junior teachers who received a salary of 7,400 rupees per month now receive 11,000 rupees. Similarly, the salary of regular junior teachers was increased from Rs 9,200 to Rs 13,800.

The increase will cost the treasury an additional Rs 168 crore per year, the statement said.
