Prepare for semester exams at home, college students said | Coimbatore news

Coimbatore: Although students from state art schools across the state were asked to use college libraries to prepare for semester exams, the decision was reversed due to the increase in Covid cases.
In a letter dated Jan. 7, C. Poornachandran, director of college education, informed the regional joint directors to instruct the directors of state art schools and BEd colleges to open libraries for students. While the teachers visited the colleges from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., they were asked to allow students to use the libraries until 5:00 p.m.
The students were given study leave until January 20 after an increase in Covid cases. While access to libraries should help them prepare for the semester exam, the continued rise in Covid cases prompted the state government to extend it to January 31 due to rising cases.
University Secretary D Karthikeyan said in a letter on Tuesday that the exam scheduled after January 20 would be postponed due to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases.
R Ulagi, joint regional director for higher education, said many of the state art colleges have been converted into Covid care centers and it would be inadvisable to visit campus. Most colleges have completed the curriculum. The universities were asked to provide the study materials required for exam preparation.
