The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) has postponed practical exams for Class 12 boards due to the surge in COVID-19 cases across the state. The practical exams should start on January 17th. In announcing on his Twitter page, Rajasthan Minister of Education Bulaki Das Kalla said the decision to postpone the exams came after 25 districts in the state were marked in the red zone for COVID-19 infection.
Kalla added that child safety in such a situation is more important than any investigation. The decision on the new dates for practical exams will be made after reviewing the COVID-19 situation in February.

Previously, RBSE had decided to run these practical exams at school level. In its Jan. 3 notice, the board directed the school administration to draw up a schedule and notify the district school commissioner at the earliest. Schools have been asked to ensure strict adherence to government-established COVID-19 safety protocols.

In the past 24 hours, Rajasthan has registered over 9400 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the number of active cases to 38,448. While the state saw 1,634 patients recovered, it also recorded three deaths.
If the situation is not under control, Rajasthan’s Grade 10 and Grade 12 board exams could also end up in the ointment. While the schedule for the boards has not yet been announced, the state Secretary of Education had confirmed their start on March 3. Over 20,000 students enrolled in grades 10 and 12 of Rajasthan board schools are expected to take the exam.
Despite several states having imposed restrictions and lockdowns, the number of new COVID-19 cases in India has risen. India recorded 2.47 lakh new cases of COVID-19 today, jumping 6.67 percent from yesterday’s figures. The current number of active cases is 11.17 lakh and a total of 84,825 recoveries have been reported. The daily death count for today was 380.
