rama rao: Ktr extends 15l support for Punjab players with special skills | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Telangana’s Minister of Industry and Information Technology KT Rama Rao granted Malika Handa, a chess player with special skills from Punjab, financial support of 15 lakh in his personal capacity on Monday.
A week after the announcement that she would be supporting the player who won one gold and two silver medals at the World Deaf Chess Championships, Rama Rao presented her with a check when she visited him here. KTR, as Rama Rao is popularly known, also gave her a laptop. He said this will help her prepare for future championships.
KTR also asked Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur to find her a job in the government.
The Telangana minister had pledged financial support to the player in his personal capacity on January 3 when he responded to tweets that the Punjab government allegedly denied their monetary awards because there was no policy on deaf athletes.
According to the chess player, she was informed that the state government cannot give her a job or a cash bonus because the government does not have such a policy for deaf sports. She alleged that Punjab Sports Minister Pargat Singh told her that the promise was made by the previous government’s minister and that there was nothing the current government could do about it. She said she was injured when her five years were wasted.
