Rumesh Ratnayake becomes Sri Lanka’s interim coach for the Zimbabwe series

Sri Lanka has appointed fast bowling trainers Rumesh Ratnayake as interim coach of the national team for the Zimbabwe tour. He is currently working as a Fast Bowling Coach in the High Performance Center. The two teams should play up to three ODIs against each other. Sri Lankan cricket has yet to provide an update on the longtime replacement for Mickey Arthur, who stepped down as head coach last month.

Former skipper from Sri Lanka Mahela Jayawardene recently appointed advisor will not be touring with the team as he will be touring the Caribbean with Sri Lanka’s U19 team. Ruvin Peiris, on the other hand, was appointed the national team’s “batting coach”. The three-game ODI series between the two nations will be played on January 16, 18 and 21 in the Pallekele Stadium.

With Sri Lanka’s upcoming series against Australia, plans to play T20Is have been put on hold. Sri Lanka recently won the Test Series 2-0 against the West Indies in what was Arthur’s last appearance with the team.

Mahela Jayawardene had previously opened up on his appointment

Jayawardene had previously opened up on the appointment as a consultant. He had stated that this is an exciting opportunity for him and that his main task will be to support the national coaches in their preparation.

“This is an exciting opportunity to work with the national players and coaches from our various development teams, including the U19 and A-Team teams, to live up to the tremendous cricket talent and potential in Sri Lanka. My main task will be to support our team of national coaches and supervisors in preparation and strategic thinking in the coming year, ”Jayawardene had previously quoted from Sportstar.

“We are very excited that Mahela will join the national team for an expanded role, especially given that Sri Lanka has a strong international calendar in 2022. Mahela’s contributions during the first round of the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup have been invaluable to the overall performance of our team at the completed event, “said Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket.
