NEW DELHI: Integrated science labs, smart classrooms, playful learning and support for vocational education will be among the focus areas of Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan’s five-year plan that has been sent to states and union territories.

Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan was launched in 2018 to offer holistic school education. Instead of different programs that looked at pre-school, primary and secondary schools in silos, the program treats the school as a continuum – from pre-school through primary to upper secondary level. The program was extended from August 2021 to 2025-26. The program was based on the recommendations of the national education policy and “many transformative recommendations of the NEP 2020 were included”, says the five-year plan, a copy of which is at TOI.

The Department of Education said the center’s estimated share would be Rs 42,211 crore for 2022-23, while states and UTs would spend Rs 23,443 crore.

Among other priorities, the plan includes annual calendar activities, national initiative for understanding reading; Implementation of VidyaPravesh – a three-month playful school preparation module for class I; targeted and saturating approach to the expansion of secondary and upper levels; Access and retention; and quality and innovation.

On issuing the guidelines, Maneesh Garg, Joint Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, said, “As the program continues for the next five years through 2025-26, it is time we did an appropriate planning process based on the measurable results initiate. ”so that the program can have some tangible benefits in the years to come. The planning exercise should be conducted in a decentralized manner that involves all stakeholders directly from the grassroots to make it realistic, achievable and accountable. ”

The government has announced its goal to achieve 100% GER (gross enrollment rate) at all levels as planned in the NEP 2020. To that end, the center has asked states and UTs to submit their proposals for opening new secondary and secondary schools based on GIS mapping by the Department of Education.

To stop the drop-out rate, which is higher in high school, and ensure universal access and retention, the ministry proposed “a two-two-three month standby module for children entering class lX to prepare them for secondary school ” before. . The document also states that “50% of the composite secondary / secondary schools envisaged in the NEP 2020 will be supported for VET over the next 4 years”.

The center has also asked states and UTs to develop plans to provide integrated science laboratories, power to ICT, and smart classrooms in all schools.
