Students who were approved for the IIT admission – JEE advanced – in 2020 or 2021, but could not appear for the same, can take the exam again in 2022, announced the Joint Admissions Board (JAB). The easing is offered to candidates due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The relaxation was also extended to students in 2020 for the 2021 exam and was again offered to eligible candidates who were unable to take the exam.

Those who have taken JEE Advanced once or not in one of the authorized attempts (2020/2021) are eligible to participate in the 2020 batch. Those who took the exam in both 2020 and 2021 will not be able to take IIT admission in 2022. “This one-time measure ONLY applies to those candidates for whom appearing in JEE (Advanced) 2022 is their first or second appearance.” Attempt and does not apply to candidates who first appeared before 2020 for their 12th grade exam . No candidate may appear in JEE (Advanced) more than twice, “JAB said in the official statement.

Under the earlier rules, candidates must appear as JEE Main and be among the 2.5 lakh best candidates on the Engineering Entrance Exam to be eligible for IIT admission. Merit of appearing for JEE Advanced is calculated every year. The candidates who would appear in an additional attempt are considered in addition to, and not part of, the total number of candidates who would qualify for participation in JEE Advanced 2022 under the rules of JEE Main 2022.

Meanwhile, JAB has changed the curriculum for Charge 2023. The new curriculum contains some chapters that were not part of Advanced earlier but were included in Mains. Experts believe the new curriculum will better align IIT entry with the NCERT and JEE main curriculum. For JEE Advanced 2022, the current curriculum would continue.
