NEET UG 2021: Tamil Nadu spoke out against NEET from the start. Later that year, the CM, MK Stalin, wrote to PM Modi asking for rejection
NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu has opposed the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) since its inception, and the anti-NEET campaign picked up again on social media on Friday. Students, even doctors from Tamil Nadu, opposed a joint, nationwide medical entrance exam and collected their posts with the hashtag #TNRejects_NEET. NEET 2021 for admission to medical and related courses is scheduled for September 12th. The DMK government in Tamil Nadu, led by Prime Minister MK Stalin, had set up a committee under the retired judge AK Rajan to examine the effects of NEET on students from the backward classes of Tamil Nadu.

People on social media have asked to cancel the exam as they say it prevents the marginalized students from becoming doctors. Posts have surfaced asking for justice for a marginalized student ‘Anitha’ who wants to become a doctor.
“Heartbreaking video from Anitha. “I want to study medicine. That is my ambition,” tweeted a user.

A Twitter user said: “The vast majority of doctors from marginalized communities join the civil service. Tamil Nadu has one doctor for every 253 inhabitants, better than WHO guidelines. It is this proud medical revolution that is destroying the Union government through NEET that is killing our children. “

M Subramanian, the minister of medical and family welfare in Tamil Nadu, had requested Thursday to remove NEET and allow students to enroll in all courses based on grade 12 grades, PTI reported. He held a meeting with Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and explained the reasons for the abolition of the exam. “During the discussion we explained the recommendation of the committee led by retired Judge AK Rajan and at the same time formulated our demands,” he said.
Referring to the Minister of Education’s statement on the increase in NEET exam cities, Subramanian said, “It is about the implementation of NEETs, not the exam centers.
According to the report, Subramanian told reporters that the union minister had promised to look into the claims.
