Preliminary Exam- Objective Questions/MCQ Based

  • The preliminary examination will consist of one paper consisting of 100 multiple choice questions.
  • Each question will carry one mark and 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.
  • The duration of the preliminary examination will be three hours.

Main Exam

  • There will be four descriptive papers in it.
  • Translation paper – 3 hours – 100 marks
  • Law Paper-I – 3 Hours – 100 Marks
  • Law Paper-II – 3 Hours – 100 Marks
  • Law Paper-III – 3 Hours – 100 Marks

personal interview

  • The viva-voce will be of sixty (60) marks and candidates from all categories will have to obtain a minimum of 18 marks to pass the viva-voce.

Syllabus for Tamil Nadu Judiciary Mains Exam

The main exam will consist of four written papers, each paper will be of three hours duration, consisting of descriptive or narrative/essay-type questions. The syllabus for each paper is as follows.

Translation

  • Translation of excerpts from English to Tamil and Tamil to English.
  • These excerpts will be from pleadings, statements, orders, judgments and documents.

Law Paper-I

  • Code of Civil Procedure, 1908

  • Principles of Pleading
  • The constitution of India

Law Paper-II

  • Deciding issues and writing judgments in civil cases.

Syllabus for Tamil Nadu Judiciary Interview

The purpose of the interview is to evaluate the suitability of the candidate for the post by assessing his mental alertness, general knowledge, knowledge of law, understanding of procedural laws and legal principles, ability to express ideas clearly and logically, judgment, skills, attitude, ethics, ability to understand and communicate, character, suitability, intellectual depth, as well as his tact, ability to handle various situations in the court and administrative and management skills.

Though there is no specific syllabus for the interview round, candidates are expected to have a strong grip on the topics covered in the preliminary and main exam.
