The very words “HSC math exam” can scare even the bravest students. But you don’t have to be intimidated by this.
Preparing for the HSC exam doesn’t have to be scary. Check out these great tips on how to study and develop confidence before you take the exam.
Practice, practice, practice
What is the best way to prepare for the HSC math exam? Practice questions. The more questions you answer, the faster you will come to the right conclusion.
Remember not only to practice the questions, but also to practice how to answer them. For example, set a timer and give yourself a certain amount of time to answer a certain number of questions. This will help you get used to the exam format.
Better to skip a question and come back to it when you have the time, rather than hanging on to one at the beginning and never touching it at the end.
Practice a variety of questions
As a side note here, you won’t get all of your practice questions from the same place. There is no way of knowing what kind of questions will be present on this year’s exam. But if you practice a wide variety of questions beforehand, you will be prepared for everything!
Check out various textbooks, check out old official papers, independent papers, and trial papers from other schools. These are all great sources for these all-important questions.
When should you start practicing?
This may sound like an exaggeration, but we recommend answering practice questions regularly at least 6 months before the exam. This gives you plenty of time to fully understand the information and prepare for the exam.
What if you haven’t covered the material in class for the practice questions you are pulling? This is likely to be the case if you start studying this early.
Don’t worry, just set these aside and come back to them after your teacher explains the relevant concept.
Take creative notes
There aren’t necessarily lists of information to write down in a math class. However, taking notes is still a helpful exercise.
Try creating mind maps that will help you understand how different concepts fit together. This deeper understanding will make it easier to answer any type of question, even one that you may not have seen before.
Also, taking the notes is a great memory tool. Finding out how to organize the material will help you understand and remember it better.
Rock the exam!
There you have it! By simply following these tips, you can build your confidence and properly prepare for the HSC exam.
The exam is a big deal, don’t get us wrong. But you’re a big deal too. With a little dedication and hard work, you don’t have to flinch in fear or be nervous about this challenge ahead.
