Upheaval in the MP training system, NEP semester system begins in the years 2022-23

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): School education in Madhya Pradesh will soon change fundamentally as the state plans to introduce the semester system. According to the current discussions of the specialist committees, the semester system is to be implemented based on the model of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Therefore, the directions will cover part of the curriculum in the first semester and another half in the second semester. In view of the continuity in education, a division of subjects is currently out of the question.

The academic year 2021-22 has escalated due to the Covid-19 situation. The Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) will be organizing board exams in February after more than a decade.

This means that the students also expect the next academic session to start earlier. There is a possibility that part of the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 will begin with implementation phase 1 from the next academic year (2022-’23).

In order to alleviate their worries and to prepare them for a holistic development according to the NEP 2020, Free Press examines the diverse patterns of the implementation of the NEP 2020 in the state and shows them.

Semester system in the MP

The MP team of experts has come to the conclusion that only a two-semester system can be implemented in the country. Some states, such as Himachal Pradesh, are introducing a four-semester system, as announced by Umesh Kumar Singh, Secretary of the MPBSE. “Four semesters cannot be implemented here because this would be too time-consuming and could make the system too complicated,” says Singh.

Semester system is better, say schools

In the semester system, students are continuously assessed and it is better for concentration and learning. The Chairman of the Indore Sahodaya Complex of CBSE Schools UK Jha said: ‘As part of the annual system, most students are academically overwhelmed with exams at the end of each session / year.’

“In the semester system, an exam is held at the end of each semester because the course descriptions are divided into semesters, students prepare and perform better, and get better grades,” said DC Sharma, educator and principal at Vidyasagar School.

However, the semester system is more expensive compared to the annual exam system, but it is important to prioritize learning over cost. Therefore, the data analyzed above shows and suggests that choosing a semester-by-semester exam system is better.

Parents are divided according to the semester system

However, the parents are divided according to the semester system. While most parents agree that it is better for education, the new system could be a bit of a challenge at first. “Getting the kids to seriously prepare for two main exams a year will be quite a chore at first,” said DK Rai, a parent.

A mother of two girls, Kaniksha Kukreja, said, “I think it’s great. Two shorter semesters are better for us and the kids. At some point we will see a better lifestyle and better learning. “

§ In this academic session, CBSE students take their committee examinations in the semester system for the first time. “It’s not a bad idea, especially since we won’t fail; But in the long run it’s a double-edged sword, ”said Anika Sharma, a 12th grade student.

§ “The burden of the curriculum is less, but we have to face the examination board twice a year,” said Hina Singh, a 10th grade student.

§ Another student, Pratikshit Kulkarni, said: “The semester system is good because we prepare for the second semester and get two chances for the board exam, so to speak.”
