There are many civil servants in India who have always kept the values of integrity, perseverance, hard work and innovation at the forefront of their work.
I know this firsthand because my brother is such a civil servant, and in regular contact with him I am aware of the high level of positive change a genuinely dedicated IAS officer can bring about in a socio-economic or developmentally underdeveloped area.
Take, for example, the case of the 2010 IAS officer named Mr. Armstrong Pame, popularly known as the “Wonder Man”.
Why is he called that, you might ask?
That’s because this bold Indian civil service officer was able to build a 100km road without any government funding. The road connects the state of Manipur with those of Assam and Nagaland and is known as the “People’s Road”.
That’s because the road was built with the help of funds raised by locals through social media, and Mr Pame contributed to the cause with his own salary.
Another example of such determined officials is Ms. Aruna Sundararajan. This IAS official on the Kerala Cadre led the development of e-governance in the state of Kerala.
Then there is the story of the officer named Ashok Khemka, who is known for his crusade against corruption.
It would take me a full day to include all of the officer skill stories like the one mentioned above. So, I’m stopping now, but I think you got my point.
You see, my intention in writing about these brave officers is to kindle the flames of inspiration within you so that one day you too can follow in their footsteps and become the great IAS officer you have the potential to be.
Being an IAS official is a dream that rests in the minds of millions of young Indians today. I know you are a dreamer too, but I want to remind you that having a dream is not enough. You have to work hard and with enormous passion if you really want to become like the people I mentioned above.
